Summary
We are seeking a kind, dependable, and skilled Home Care Worker to provide consistent daily support
for an elderly woman living in East York. The successful applicant will play a critical role in supporting her
daily living, ensuring her safety, and preserving her dignity in a familiar home setting.
This role involves working with a patient who has moderate-stage dementia. Therefore, we
are looking for someone with relevant experience in cognitive care, a calm demeanor, and
sensitivity to the evolving needs of individuals experiencing memory loss and confusion.
Language Requirement
Language of work: English required. Fluency in Edo, a Nigerian dialect is essential due to the communication needs of the care recipient. The client communicates primarily in Edo and finds it difficult to engage in English. For her
comfort and clarity, the ability to converse in Edo is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assisting with bathing, dressing, grooming, and other personal hygiene routines
- Preparing meals and ensuring compliance with dietary instructions
- Administering medications under direction and maintaining a medication log
- Offering companionship and emotional support through patient and culturally
sensitive interaction - Providing mobility support and fall prevention strategies
- Escorting the client to medical appointments and occasional community programs
- Performing light housekeeping, laundry, and managing household tasks
- Observing and reporting any changes in health status to family or supervising
professionals
The client requires consistency, gentle reassurance, and structured routines. Training or prior
experience working with dementia patients is a strong asset.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in home care, elder care, or personal support work
- Specialized experience with dementia or Alzheimer’s care is a strong advantage
- Certification in First Aid and CPR (required)
- Strong communication skills in both Edo and English
- Patience, empathy, and cultural understanding
- Physically capable of assisting with mobility and personal care needs
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly wage: $22.00
- Overtime: Time and a half ($33/hour) after 8 hours/day or 40 hours/week
- Vacation: Two weeks paid vacation per year
