We are currently looking for a Meat Department Manager to oversee the operations of our Meat and Seafood Departments in London, ON.

 

Responsibilities & Duties:

Plan, organize, direct and evaluate the daily operations of the Meat and Seafood Departments to ensure efficient and profitable department performance.
Supervise, coordinate and schedule the activities of meat cutters, butchers, seafood staff and other department employees.
Assign duties and responsibilities to department employees and monitor their performance to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of daily tasks.
Oversee the cutting, preparation, packaging, labelling and merchandising of meat, fish and seafood products in accordance with company standards and customer requirements.
Monitor inventory levels, product availability and product rotation, and coordinate the ordering and receiving of meat, fish and seafood products.
Monitor product costs, waste and inventory turnover, and implement measures to minimize product loss and improve department efficiency.
Coordinate with suppliers and senior management regarding product purchasing, product availability, pricing and inventory requirements.
Establish and maintain standards for the quality, freshness, handling, storage and presentation of meat, fish and seafood products.
Train, supervise, coach and evaluate Meat and Seafood Department employees and identify training needs.
Assist management with the hiring, onboarding and retention of department employees as required.
Ensure compliance with applicable food safety, sanitation and occupational health and safety requirements, including CFIA requirements and HACCP principles.
Handle customer inquiries and complaints regarding meat and seafood products and services and take appropriate corrective action.
Review department operations and make recommendations to senior management regarding staffing, purchasing, inventory, merchandising and operational improvements.
Ensure that meat and seafood processing equipment and work areas are properly maintained, cleaned and operated in accordance with safety procedures.
Prepare and maintain records relating to inventory, purchasing, staffing and department operations.
Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Experience:

A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in a retail or wholesale meat department, meat processing, food retailing, or a related environment is required.
Previous supervisory experience in a meat department, seafood department, or food processing environment is required.
Experience supervising employees and coordinating daily department operations is required.
Experience with meat cutting, preparation, packaging, inventory control and product rotation is required.
Knowledge of meat and seafood products, quality control, food safety and sanitation standards is required.
Experience with ordering, receiving and inventory management is considered an asset.
Experience with staff training, scheduling and performance evaluation is considered an asset.
Strong organizational, leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
Education:

Completion of secondary school is required.
A university degree or college diploma in business administration, management, finance, or a field related to the retail meat or food business is an asset.

Salary:

$38 per hour, 35 hours per week

 

Overtime:

1.5 times the wages after 44 hours per week
